Meta Description Is Important for Every Page

Is it necessary for every page to have a meta description?
Google’s head of search spam Matt Cutts from discussing it further in a new Webmaster Help Video in response to the user-submitted question:
Is it necessary for each single page within my website to have a unique metatag description?
Walter, Leiden, Netherlands
Here is the video for you all to watch:

Cutts advised that you can have a unique metatag description or you can pick to have no metatag description. However, you should not have a duplicate metatag description. He also included that whenever you register and verify your website on free Google Webmaster Tools, the team will confirm if it recognizes identical metatag description or something worth avoiding.

Matt added that it is usually extremely hard for you to come up with a unique metatag for every page on your website. There are however, a couple of pages like the homepage or those that have important ROI that should have unique & hand made meta descriptions. But, in general, instead of have one meta tag description repeated again and again on your website, Cutts said he would either go ahead and make sure that there's a unique one for pages that really matter or just leave it off and Google will make the snippet for you. But, don't have the duplicate ones within the page.
